The Community Awareness Committee works to engage the Lehigh Valley in an ongoing discussion on the needs and aspirations of people with disabilities. It does this by commanding public attention in news interviews, op-ed articles and informational programs, by helping companies and other organizations access resources and information concerning best practices for accommodating people with disabilities, and by concentrating attention on the people and organizations that help make the Lehigh Valley disability friendly. The Community Awareness Committee coordinates DFC’s business recognition program that presents an Award of Merit to organizations and institutions that have done a superlative job of accommodating people with disabilities. The committee conducts monthly meetings at dates and times convenient to its members.
